Firepower FP-10™ Review

This review was originally submitted to us by Tanner Edwards, U.S. Army National Guard 1-107th FA, in February 2014. We are re-publishing here in his honor.

Tanner wrote to us to share his thoughts and personal experience using our Firepower FP-10™ while he was stationed in Afghanistan, and when home, competition shooting.

Tanner explained that just because he was in the Military, he didn’t consider himself a weapons expert, “but I know what works.” He wanted to share the tests he conducted on his AR-15 and Remington 700 SPS Tactical, hoping his information was helpful and would encourage fellow shooters to try the product.

His review began with the observation “this product looks nice with the camouflage decal and big Firepower logo. The bottle is easy to open,” and unlike other lubricants and cleaners, it doesn’t have a strong odor. “I have used this lubricant in combat, and it performs way better than the standard CLP, commercial FROGLUBE, and Slip 2000. The great attribute of Firepower is its durability. I only need a few drops and it really gets into the metal. I can tell that a lot of R&D went into this product, and it shows after the first round.”

Tanner always used Firepower overseas because he knew “it would make my weapon shoot every time and not fail. When my life is on the line my weapon is what is going to save me, and it is imperative it works every time. With Firepower, I never worried about this issue.”

For his first test, he used two AR-15's. One was a standard Colt, and the other was a Daniel Defense. Neither had upgrades. Taking them both apart, he lubed one with CLP (supplied by the U.S. Army), and the second with Firepower. After shooting 100 rounds through each weapon using green tip armor piercing 5.56 rounds, he broke the ARs down and was “shocked upon looking at the internals.” The AR lubricated with the CLP was (as he expected) filthy with carbon everywhere. “These weapons were both spotless before firing, so I didn't stack the deck in any way.” The AR lubed with Firepower “looked like I only shot ten rounds through it. There was at least a 75% reduction in carbon built up, and not one malfunction.” The AR with the CLP malfunctioned twice on the second and last magazines. “I can honestly say Firepower on the bolt, and a few drops down the barrel, made a huge difference.” Tanner fired these rounds at a 100-yard target at a pretty fast rate. He also noticed his shot groups were a bit tighter from the AR lubed with Firepower.

After shooting, Tanner took his AR to a local gun shop to share his experience, and they instantly wanted to compare it to Slick 2000. It was a cold 7 deg F at the range, with a lot of wind (approx. -15 deg F wind chill). He and his buddy had four magazines each (120 rounds) and began firing. Tanner’s weapon didn’t miss a beat. “I looked over and heard some choice words from my buddy, and sure enough, his AR froze up. He admitted that Firepower was a super high-quality lubricant…”

Tanner had left his Remington 700 .308 outside while they were shooting (about three hours). His friend at the shop thought it was probably froze up and wouldn’t fire. “I honestly had no idea if it would or wouldn't. I was easily able to pull the bolt back, chamber a round, and I fired all three rounds at a 100-yard target with ease.”

After discovering he could leave a weapon outside in the freezing cold for a few hours, Tanner decided to push Firepower’s limits. He took his AR apart the next morning at 8 a.m. and placed it in the deepest snow he could find. Everything was covered. He also removed the bolt and laid it beside the gun. “I knew Firepower was good, but I honestly didn't think it would pass this test. The temperature dipped well below -15 deg F at night.” He left that AR in the snow for 24 hours. The next morning, he put that cold weapon together, loaded a 30-round magazine, and sighted in on a target at 50 yards. He was confident that if he could pull the charging handle back and chamber a round, it would fire. Sure enough, it pulled back, chambered a round, and he shot all 30 rounds. No problem! “I was truly impressed that it fired and still maintained a pretty good shot group. When they say that the lubricant gets into the metal it’s not a joke. My bolt is like glass, shiny and so smooth to pull back. It’s crazy.”

“This is a great product and the only lubricant that I will ever use on my weapons. It’s honestly hard to believe that the military hasn't adopted it but we all know it’s all about money up at capitol hill…. This product dramatically reduces the buildup of carbon, improves durability/ functionality, and improves accuracy. In my opinion it’s a no-brainer to use this product for the price.”
