Meet Team Muscle
Periodically we post information about our people to offer a more personalized experience to our readers. Today, allow us to introduce one of our independent representatives and members of Team Muscle….
Tommy Board
Tommy has distributed Muscle lubricants and additives since 1990. He has earned the distinction of becoming our largest affiliate in North America.
History & Experience
Born in Southern Indiana, Tommy’s family moved to Texas in 1966. Austin has been home the past 53 years. His professional career has been a mix of sales, sales management, and executive management, with his passion being sales.
Tommy has a unique gift of connecting with people from all walks of life and believes that is part of what made him successful throughout his life. His wife, Martha, and kids routinely tease him by saying, “We can’t let dad run into the store for a pack of gum because he’ll end up in conversation with a total stranger and be in there for 15 minutes!”
The day after high school graduation, Tommy went to work for an underground utility contractor. He quickly moved up to heavy equipment operator, and over time, became proficient on a wide variety of CAT, CASE, Komatsu, and John Deere models. There he learned about the value of oil sampling. Today, most equipment manufacturers require oil samples be drawn and subsequently analyzed while the equipment is under factory warranty. Many equipment owners continue the process after warranty as preventive maintenance to detect and avoid premature and catastrophic failures.
Starting out in the automotive industry and having seen the results in hundreds of automotive applications, Tommy saw an opportunity to make a statement with Muscle products in a more industrial application, and that proved to be, and continues to be, an extremely rewarding experience! When asked what the difference was between the industries, Tommy remarked, “When a customer can SEE their results on paper, and the Copper and Iron ppm (parts per million) can be reduced by as much as 70, 80 and even 90% EVERY TIME, they become believers”. The heavy equipment industry has proven this assertion numerous times! Additionally, Tommy said, “When a customer can watch his or her operating temperatures reduce by 5 to 50 degrees, and component life (hydraulics specifically), the products almost sell themselves!”
Family & Interests
Tommy is married to Martha, and together they have five children and several grandchildren. Outside of work and family, Tommy enjoys golf, hunting and spending Saturdays on a lifelong friend’s ranch tending cattle, building fence, and “all things ranch life entails.”
