Grease Compatibility
Are you considering switching out your current grease to a Muscle brand and concerned about compatibility? Here’s a quick way to make sure the two greases are compatible.
First, take a look at your grease’s label or Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Look for key words (typically Section 3 of an SDS) that indicate the grease’s thickener type. Some examples: Lithium, Calcium, Clay, Bentone, Sodium, Polyurea, etc.
Second, cross reference the key word you found with either Lithium Complex (Power-Lift Grease PL-10™) or Lithium (Lithium EP Plus LP-10™) on the chart below.
If the current grease is not compatible with either Muscle grease, you should purge the system before the switch. If the greases are compatible, no system purging is necessary.
Relative Compatibility Rating
B = Borderline • C = Compatible • I = Incompatible
NOTE: This chart is a general guide to compatibility. Specific properties of greases can dictate compatibility. Testing should be done to determine if greases are compatible.
